Which ticket suits which trip

Table of Contents

On the Vogelfluglinie you don't pay for the distance, you pay for flexibility. Every car ticket takes you across the Belt in 45 minutes; they differ in how firmly you are tied to a departure and what happens if your plans change. Prices vary with demand. The current "from" prices for all fares are on the Tickets & prices page, and the conditions are here.

Single crossing: Low Price, Standard or Flex

  • Low Price is the cheapest fare and is valid only for the departure you booked. You can only book it online and only for cars up to 6 metres. There are no changes to a later departure and no refunds; for a fee plus the fare difference, you can upgrade it to a higher fare. Low Price suits you if your day of travel and arrival time are fixed.
  • Standard is valid for the departure you booked and for all other departures on the same day. If you arrive earlier or later, you simply take another ferry. Changing to another day costs a fee plus the fare difference; Standard is only refunded if you added the ticket return service. Standard is also the ticket you buy at the port.
  • Flex is valid from purchase for all departures up to 90 days after the booked departure and can be changed or refunded free of charge until then. Up to nine people are included in the car ticket. In the high and summer season, Flex is only available online. Flex is worth it if your travel date is still open.

Return trips: day, weekend and Easy Return tickets

  • Car day ticket: outward and return crossing on the same calendar day, only from Germany to Denmark and back, with the same vehicle, from 06:00. It isn't available to business customers, and a partly used day ticket is not refunded. There is also a day ticket for motorcycles with up to three people.
  • Foot passenger day ticket: available online and at the port; children aged 5 to 13 pay half. In the summer high season it costs more than during the rest of the year. It cannot be cancelled. What you need to know on foot and by bike is on the On foot & by bike page.
  • Weekend ticket: outward on Friday, return on Sunday.
  • Easy Return: you book the outward crossing for a fixed departure, and the return stays open until the end of June 2027. It is only refunded with the ticket return service.

Changes and cancellations

After every booking you have 24 hours to cancel. Scandlines grants this under its terms; there is no statutory right of withdrawal for transport services. After that, the rules of your fare apply. Cancel unused tickets via "My Booking" at Scandlines; changes go through customer service for a fee plus the fare difference. Fees are not refunded.

If your sailing is cancelled, all tickets are valid for the whole day, including Low Price. What applies in the event of a delay is on the Live status page.

Buying at the port

Without a booking, you can buy a Standard ticket at the terminal at the port price up to 15 minutes before departure and travel on the next ferry with space. If you buy the ticket from a member of staff, a handling fee is added. Online is always cheaper. Since April 2025, Scandlines no longer accepts BroBizz in Puttgarden and Rødby. How check-in works is explained on its own page.

On to Sweden

For onward travel, Scandlines combines the crossing with the Øresund Bridge or the Helsingør-Helsingborg ferry in one combination ticket. Which option suits which destination is explained on the To Sweden via Fehmarn page.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about ticket types, changes and cancellations

Can I change a Low Price ticket? +

Not to a later departure, and it isn't refundable either. For a fee plus the fare difference, you can upgrade it to a higher fare. If your sailing is cancelled, Low Price is valid for the whole day too.

What is the difference between Standard and Flex? +

Standard is valid for all departures on your day of travel; changes cost a fee plus the fare difference. Flex is valid up to 90 days after the booked departure and can be changed or refunded free of charge until then.

Can I still cancel my ticket after booking? +

After every booking you have 24 hours to cancel, a right Scandlines grants under its terms. After that it depends on the fare: Flex is refunded, Standard and Easy Return only with the ticket return service, and Low Price not at all.

Is it worth buying a ticket at the port? +

At the port you can buy a Standard ticket at the port price up to 15 minutes before departure and travel on the next ferry with space. Online is always cheaper; compare the prices on the Tickets & prices page.

Can I pay with BroBizz? +

No. Since 1 April 2025, Scandlines no longer accepts Bizz in Puttgarden and Rødby. Book online or buy at the terminal.
