Puttgarden-Rødby ferry today: where to find the status

Table of Contents

On the Fehmarn Belt the ferries sail every 30 minutes during the day, and the crossing takes 45 minutes. If a sailing is cancelled, you can usually just take the next one. This page shows where a cancellation appears first, where to check wind and road conditions on both sides of the Belt, and what a delay means for your ticket. The next departures are at the top of this page, and all times for another date are in the timetable.

Where cancellations appear first

Scandlines has no dedicated service status page. Two places show what is happening with the ferries:

  • The departure list from Scandlines for Puttgarden-Rødby. It shows the day's departures and marks a cancelled sailing as cancelled.
  • Scandlines customer service, with its page on delayed and cancelled ferries. It explains what applies if a sailing is cancelled and how to get a refund for an unused ticket.

The Scandlines app shows departure times. Scandlines doesn't state whether it sends disruption alerts, so on your day of travel rely on the departure list. There are always staff at check-in at the port who can help.

Wind and sea conditions

The Vogelfluglinie's hybrid ferries sail in rough weather too; in a severe storm, individual sailings are moved or cancelled. The evening before you travel, three checks are worthwhile:

  • the marine forecast from the German Weather Service (DWD) for the western Baltic,
  • the wind forecast from the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) for the next 48 hours, plus its marine forecast for the western Baltic,
  • the severe weather warnings from DWD and DMI for Ostholstein and Lolland.

On a day with a storm warning, note the departure after yours as a backup. If yours is cancelled, your ticket is valid for the whole day.

Fehmarn Sound Bridge and road conditions

On the German side, the road to Puttgarden crosses the Fehmarn Sound Bridge. In high winds it is closed to empty lorries and to cars with caravans or trailers, usually for a few hours. If you are towing a caravan or trailer, the drive along the B207 can stall on a stormy day. Cars without a trailer are not affected.

On the Danish side, the roads authority Vejdirektoratet reports roadworks, accidents and closures on its live traffic map, and on X as @VDTrafikinfo. On the E47 across Lolland, two bridges are being renovated until February 2027; there you drive in a single lane at 80 km/h. Allow a few extra minutes for this on your way to Copenhagen or Sweden.

Webcams

There is no official webcam of the ferry berths in Puttgarden or Rødby. Two official cameras do show the surrounding area, though:

  • Femern A/S, the developer of the Fehmarn Belt tunnel, streams live footage from the tunnel construction sites in Puttgarden and Rødbyhavn on its YouTube channel.
  • Fehmarn's tourist office runs a 360-degree panoramic camera on the observation tower in Burgtiefe. It shows a new image every ten minutes, including the Fehmarn Sound Bridge.

Neither tells you much about the situation in the check-in lanes. For your departure, the departure list is what counts.

Delays and cancellations: your rights

The crossing is covered by the EU regulation on the rights of passengers travelling by sea and inland waterway, and Scandlines bases its compensation on it:

  • Sailing cancelled: All tickets are valid for the whole day, including Low Price. An unused ticket is refunded free of charge if you ask customer service.
  • Delay of 60 minutes or more: 25 per cent of the ticket price as compensation, rising to 50 per cent from two hours. This applies to a ticket for a specific departure that you bought before arriving at the port.
  • Delay of 90 minutes or more: You are entitled to snacks and refreshments and to a choice between alternative transport and a refund.
  • Weather and force majeure: If the weather puts safe operation at risk, there is no compensation. You can still continue your journey on a later departure.

How to change or cancel a ticket yourself if you no longer need it is explained on the Ticket types page.
