Where to leave the car?

Table of Contents

If you want to cross the Fehmarn Belt on foot, you face the question of where to leave the car. Scandlines has no parking of its own for the ferry. Often it's easier anyway to take the car with you or not to drive to the port at all. Here are the three options at a glance, each with the right ticket.

Take the car: often the easiest solution

For a day trip to Denmark, the easiest thing is to take the car with you. The car day ticket covers the outward and return crossing on the same calendar day, to Denmark and back, with the same vehicle and from 06:00. You save yourself the hunt for a parking space and can get around Lolland by car. How the tickets differ is explained under Ticket types; prices are on Tickets & prices. For motorhomes and cars with caravans or trailers, the Motorhomes & caravans page sets out the length and height to state.

Park at the port

If you want to cross on foot, for example for a trip to Rødbyhavn, buy a foot passenger day ticket. Where you may leave your car in Puttgarden or Rødby, for how long and at what price is set by the signs on site, not by your ferry ticket. This also applies if you are staying overnight. The ferry terminals themselves are at Fährhafenstraße, 23769 Puttgarden, and Færgestationsvej 5, 4970 Rødby.

Allow enough time: on foot, you must be at the boarding bridge no later than 15 minutes before departure, and the walk there from the terminal building takes five to ten minutes. The procedure is described on the Check-in page.

To the terminal without a car

The parking question doesn't arise if you don't come by car in the first place:

  • To Puttgarden, the X85 express bus runs from Lübeck ZOB (central bus station) straight to the ferry terminal. No trains stop at Puttgarden while the Belt tunnel is being built. More on the Port of Puttgarden page.
  • To Rødby, take the train to Maribo and from there bus 720R to the terminal. More on the Port of Rødby page.

Crossing the Belt by bike or on foot: what you need to know is on the On foot & by bike page.
